Confession has to happen so that we can free ourselves from habitual sin. Yet, if we stop there, confession actually roots us in the past. Accountability helps us move forward. True accountability realizes that we cannot change the past, only confess to it. But, accountability is forward-thinking and should, with the help of our brothers and sisters in Christ, help us avoid temptation.
